getstats video - the Royal Statistical Society's statistical literacy campaign

Author: The Royal Statistical Society, getstats

Numbers are everywhere. But mostly we don't really get what they mean, even when they're key to the important choices we make in our lives. Statistics is, primarily, a tool for problem-solving and decision-making, used across the curriculum, in many workplaces and in many areas of life. It helps us all to make well-informed choices, take sound decisions, understand the society and the world we live in, and get the most out of our lives. Otherwise as individuals and as a society we'll just keep missing out.

In short, statistics is a lifeskill.

The getstats campaign is about turning this around – giving everyone the skills and confidence to use numbers well.  Through the getstats campaign the Royal Statistical Society will reach out to new and wider audiences, raising awareness of the benefits of statistics, and creating paths to the know-how and skills needed to make statistics work for them.

One of the aims within the Charter of the Royal Statistical Society is to promote the public understanding of statistics and the competent use and interpretation of statistics. To help in this aim, the Society is seeking to work with strategic partners in a Statistical Literacy Campaign, with the underpinning vision of a society in which our lives and choices are enriched by an understanding of statistics.
